My Macbook pro 2012 has something wrong with the HDD, disk utility cant repair it and it wont boot, so I am just going to put in a new SSD either:

or

will either of these be ok?

The thing I really need to know is how do I install El Capitan on a new SSD?

From looking around google/youtube I need to make an install on a USB drive, but how can I do this as all the videos show that you need to boot your mac, goto the app store download it etc. to make the USB install drive well I cant do that as I cant boot my macbook or they talk about doing a clone of the drive which also I don't want to do

Boot into recovery mode - CMD+R during boot up. It'll do an internet recovery. Takes a while...but get it started and just leave it to it.

I did an internet recovery recently on a 2011 MacBook - worked well.

The only issue was that with a fresh SSD installed, the internet recovery downloaded Lion (the version which shipped with the MacBook) rather than El Capitan. So I had to recover to Lion then upgrade to El Capitan (which involved another 6GB download from the App Store).

Suppose it makes sense that it recovers to the out-of-the-box state, but still a bit annoying that there was no option to download El Capitan right off the bat.

Thanks for the answers, so i can simply put the new SSD in, CMD+R boot, format the SSD and then install from there, then upgrade when its up and running?

Edit: I have deleted this post, just in case it did happen to fall foul of any OcUK Forum rules.

For anyone who might have read it previously, I managed to obtain what I required from a friendly eBay seller, for a very nominal sum!
