Guys,
I just did a fresh install of Vista Ultimate 64 and went straight to the windows update to get SP1 but its not there.

All I get is the option to download a bundle of updates, fixes the usual stuff. I thought SP1 had incorporated all the old updates into the SP1.

Any ideas or do I just download what its offering.

I did download SP1 the other day but have done a fresh install since.

Some of the updates will be pre-requisites to SP1. It's the same if you do a fresh install of XP, you have to download a load of updates before SP2 becomes available.

Hello JaseUK, it maybe an idea to download Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and then save it to a USB drive. Then do a fresh installation of Windows Vista, once it has completed, install the Service Pack straight from your USB drive.

Though to answer your original question, as Dolph has already stated, you will have to download and install the prerequisite updates before Service Pack 1 becomes available. :)

Once you download the updates available, SP1 will eventually be available too. The alternative is to install it from the standalone file, which after a fresh install means you only have a couple of other updates (afterwards) to install.

My SP1 update for x64 home premium only appeared last night. I installed this morning but have yet to notice any big changes, what should I notice?
