Fresh Install Vs. Upgraded Install...

So I've had my iMac since September, and was there in Trafford Centre when Leopard was released and immediately upgraded.

Been thinking lately, so about doing a fresh install? Will it be of benefit?

Dan seems to think so, not installing extra languages and printer drivers?

I haven't got an external HDD yet, so will wait to backup my Apps. Then consider it...

What do you think?
 
Yeah I would go for it, clean zero out, then fresh install. Customize the install to install what you want etc.

You will probably find it will be faster than it would be after an upgrade.
 
Definitely go for a fresh install, it just clears everything up and you will be suprised at how much faster it gets. Time machine can help get things back on there.
 
If I were you I would have done a fresh install right away. I'm considering doing it to my MacBook. It came pre-installed with Leopard, but I might do it anyway once I have an external HDD.
 
Yup Fresh Install is the way... I upgraded to leopard about 2 weeks ago THE APPLE STORE told me just do a upgrade it makes no different even though i was told by some of your guys to do a Zero Fresh install but i though i do the upgrade as nothing to lose :) It was ok but one evening i got bored so i though i do a Zero Fresh Install. Oh man it is a lot different...
 
I did the upgrade, and it messed up due to a conflict with an app I had before. Had to do an archive and install, backed up then did a fresh install. Bit of a kerfuffle but worked out ok in the end.
 
Restore BOTH disks to the same partition.

It will need to be large enough to compensate for both disk images :)

ahh i see...

its doing the restore now... really should have checked whether the 7.5GB is big enough for both my leopard install disks (the ones that came with the mac not a standalone leopard pack)... guess i'll find out :p
 
Zeroing the drive is a waste of time unless you're giving the drive away. I understand the OCD style motivation, but it's by no means necessary!
