Hi there,

Bought myself a hdd for my laptop

When I am trying to install windows onto it I get the following windows xp pro setup error after the initial searching for drivers sequence:-

" windows cannot detect your hdd" - it has other non useful blurb aswell...

So I took the hdd out and connected it to my desktop and my desktop found it - well I had to go to management under my computer...

So why is my lappy misbehaving...

please advise..

cheers

Is it SATA?

Out of the box Windows XP doesn't natively recognise SATA controllers (therefore not seeing the drives connected to them).

Two options :
1) Slipstream the SATA drivers on to your XP installation
2) Disable AHCI and run the SATA controller in compatability mode (basically IDE emulation). If available it'll be an option in the BIOS.

Would help to have more information eg version of XP and the laptop make/model.
