Fresh nVidia install and black screen

I decided to reinstall windows 7 onto an SSD as my system was running on HDD and was bloated. However, I am running into problems with the nvidia driver which seems to hang on a blank black screen just after the windows logo.
Having had a quick scour seems to be a regular problem lately with nvidia users although I've never come across this when I previously installed drivers (years ago though).

Has anyone encountered this and got suggestions on what I should do please?

My gpu is Geforce gtx460 Hawx

System was working fine prior to this installation and is currently working off generic windows drivers.

Never mind - it seems to be okay now.

The solution? I'm not even sure, I tried all sorts from uninstalling and reinstalling about 8 times. unplugged the HDMI cable from the second port (to TV) and it seems to be working fine now.

its due to your default display being the HDMI.

I had this problem when i re-installed windows.

I spent about 2 hours pulling my hair out, as to why I was getting a black screen but still getting sound.!!!

Turns out.. it was defaulting to my "not even switched on HDMI connected TV", instead of my DVI monitor... much face palming was had

Can also happen if you have IGPU enabled plus GPU, When you remove the GPU driver Windows will switch to the IGPU and because you will most of the time not have cable installed into Motherboard you will get a black screen.
