Hi all

I was having a few problems with this system so deicided to take a few hours and re-install vista. Only problem is now the HD is showing 105GB free of 232GB when there is only around 20GB of files?

So somewhere I am losing over 100GB. Ive deleted all my system restores and the 'windows old' folder. Ive also run CCleaner but havnt really recovered any space.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Yeah m8

And its showing only 20GB used space aswell. Its a totally fresh install, only things I have installed are eve onine and microsoft Office :(

How do i know if it is set to use the entire disk m8? Sorry buy ive never had to mess around with partitions before :(

Just had a closer look, there is the primary partition with an additional 9mb of unallocated space. I take it that this means the entire partition is actually being used?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah sounds that way. I lost some space once on Vista, about 50 gb. A reboot later and it was back. Try running disk cleanup, there might be temporary files taking up space

Done that aswell m8

Im off next week so ill set a morning aside and just try a fresh install.

Thanks for all the replies guys

Finally got it sorted :)

After another fresh install of vista with the same results I rolled back to a fresh install of XP, but had exactly the same problem. The drive had been formatted but was still showing over 120GB being used. Sooo back in popped the vista CD and I tried again, this time I found the option to format the C drive using vista and clicked on that, it took all of 2 seconds and I had the correct space showing for the drive :)

Im not sure what caused the problem but at least it is fixed now, ive heard a few people with similar problems so thought this update might be useful.

Cheers
