Have an old PC (Windows 11 compatible) that I'm wanting to do a fresh clean install of the OS on for my Dad.
He has an older W10 machine with a digital licence tied to his MS account so I want swap that over to the new clean W11 system.

Can I fresh install W11 onto his new PC then transfer the licence, presumably I'd need to deactivate his current system from his account, before the move?

Just trying to do the simplest way to do this as my time is limited when I visit tomorrow to do it.

If its an OEM license it will be tied to the first PC its installed on.

Retail license's can be moved between machines.

Do you know which 1 he has?

Is this a custom built or pre-built device? If pre-built the license will be embedded in the motherboard. During setup if there is no license you'll be asked to provide one. You can continue without a license and activate at a later date when you've had time to locate a working key or buy one.

Export the drivers before you reimage to save time.

Code:
PS > export-windowsdriver -online -destination D:\drivers

All sorted.

Installed W11 off USB, all worked fine, added the MS account with the digital licence attached to it and hit Troubleshoot, changed the PC the account was installed on & done. All working.

I was more concerned I'd have to make the original (old PC) a W11 install, then switch it over, but just installing W11 was enough and moved the account over.
