Freshly rendered walls

After no end of let downs with so called reputable/reliable builders we finally got our extension re-rendered last week and I'm looking for some advice as to how best protect it. I plan on painting it using sandtex, but is there anything I should be doing before or after this to try and protect the rendered surface?

That sounds like a good plan. One wall doesnt see too much sun so can have a tendency to turn green over time.
