Just been down to a large electronics store looking for an american style fridge and after talking with one of the chaps working there they said that to plumb it in for the water cooler and ice maker you would need to be within 1 metre of the mains water.

Now were they just saying this as they would only fit it in if its within that distance, or is that a general rule for these types of fridges? I would have asked them further but they arn't exactly plumbers!

The plumbing would need to be around 3 metres to fit one in my kitchen so i'm in 2 minds as to whether i can get one or not!

My fridge has a small PVC pipe running from the water supply, through the ceiling and to the back of the fridge. I guess it must be about 6 meters long in total.

thats all they are willing to do for you the inclusive fitting, you could ask if you could pay for a longer run, or just get a plumber to fit it for you.
