Own a Hotpoint FF200LP fridge freezer and it has always made rather strange noises but today the fridge has packed up, the freezer still works though so at least that's something.
Had a quick search around the web and found some info but I'm not feeling brave enough to attempt the seemingly easy repair with a hairdryer as I don't want to break the freezer part right now.
Bloody typical isn't it.

Is there any ice/water in the bottom of the freezer section (underneath draw) if yes its a blocked defrost tube, you can either turn it off doors open for 48 hours or remove back panel in freezer section and run a hair dryer or better a steamer over evap and drainage section to remove ice (keep heat constantly moving and don't apply heat to stats).

If no it could still be the above or defrost heater, timer, evap fan, defrost cut in/out stats.

Whatever it is leaving of for a minimum of 24 hours will make it behave for a couple of weeks unless it's the fan.

Must be the time of the year.

Our Bosch Fridge Freezer went Kaput last week (The freezer side) and we lost four drawers of tucker.

It was 16 years old though so I guess we had a good run

Hotpoint shop to the rescue (Hotpoint are based in Peterborough but no longer manufacture here)

Got a still stretch wrapped unmarked £370 Fridge Freezer for £280

Now the boiler is having trouble firing up !

Bah!

If the room temp is cold (close to ~4C), fridges will fail to function, they rely on a warmer ambient room temp to work.

A basic fridge freezer (domestic) uses the temp of the fridge as the control they cut in at 9.9oC and will run until the stat gets to the required temp.

I don't work in comercial sector but from what I've seen of them they are all blown air systems and will measure evap temp and air temp, fairly sure they use a different refrigerant as well.

More than likely the condenser Motor fan or motor if your freezer is working. It's normally located at the very bottom of the fridge and blows cool air up to the fridge part. Or the intake has a blockage.

Ypu win and internet cookie as You are correct

Don't know what the ambient room temp is but it's warm enough for T shirt, probably around 18 degrees.

Got my camping fridge in the Kitchen for a couple of days but strange thing is that now the fridge appears to be working again.
Did the self test on it yesterday and it didn't report any errors.
