Fried Gfx Card?

I have a 5870 using both the DVI Ports. I removed 1 while everything was turned on and the fan went nuts. So i turned it off and now the screens stay black even when both are connected.

the fan barely spins and the card emits no heat really. Is this busted? It's out of warranty (feb-'10) so can it be RMA'ed or should I just get a replacement. Looking at the 7770 since the 6870's seem to be very loud.

Doesnt sound good, i would try removing the card+ all drivers then replace it and see if you get any joy if it still doesnt work try it in a different PCIe slot just to be sure its not a motherboard issue

if still no luck, I would jam the dvi port a bit then try again.

swapped the PCI slot no change. Just rev-ing and black screen. So need advice on new GFX card. As I said I'm looking at the ATI 7770. About £120 to play with +/-

I found a xfx double d 6870 for 118 quid,two fans,better then the single fan offerings on this site.

6870's a lot better than the 7770, 7770 from a 5870 is a rather big downgrade.

nvm just looked at some benchmarks. seems to be a significant difference:

5870: 1285 G3D Mark
6870: 2831 G3D Mark
7770: 2017 G3D Mark

What's the vendor on the 5870?
Some offer 3 years warranty, as a 5870 is still generally better than a 6870.
I also wouldn't pay 118 for a 6870, I recently sold some second hand for about 70.

sapphire IIRC. I'll get it RMA'ed and sell it or upgrade another pc
