fried processor

woke up the other morning and living room stank, cpu in lappy had burnt out, its an old inspiron 1300 with a socket 478 celeron 1.5ghz in it

motherboard doesnt appear to be damaged but plastic around heatsink is all bent from the heat

just wondering what my chances are of it being ok if i grab a new cpu

only an old laptop so not that big a deal, still seems too good to just dump in a skip tho

You will have to give it a go mate, the 478 Celerons are not that expenceive, In fact i have one in my MM thread (A)

You can pick them up from the bay cheap and also a new cooling unit.
