Friend has weird sound card problem...

He opened the computer to dust the insides, and, when he put it back togehter, the sound card wasn't working!

Says he reinstalled everything from scratch (windows, motherboard drivers, everything) but it still won't work.

Any ideas?
 
Ah, sorry, forgot to mention he's got on-board sound.

Some cheap no-brand motherboard which he nevertheless managed to find the drivers for through dilligent googling, and since his Windows reinstall everything apart from the sound works. His speakers are fine, we tested them on his laptop. He's got a USB ADSL modem, so how would a PCI network card help?

Don't get smart. I was simply asking because sometimes PCI network cards and sound cards have conflicting IRQs.
