Friend's car clamped

my dad got clamped in his van, we came back about 5 mins later got the geny out the back along with a 110v 9 inch angle grinder and removed it

nothing came of that either tbh :D

I cycled past there after work today.. and there are signs on every lampost warning of clamping (says charge 300 quid for clamping, and extra for towed) so I'm not sure where he stands now :o

What if all the signs were to suddenly fall off, leaving no signs of any enforced clamping in the area? :D.

Here's your answer:

**** clampers (PS Glad to be in Scotland!)...

There is absolutely no excuse for "you shouldn't have parked there" and ignore people who say that. Taking someone's car away without the right to do so is completely illegal. It's theft, and those charges sound extremely dodgy to me. I would threaten legal action for an evasion of civil rights and if they ignored me I would phone the police.

You can hire metal cutters from HSS you know, cheaper than paying out to have the clamp removed.. how can the clampers prove it was you who cut their clamp.

This sort of thing really gets my goat, I'd cut it off and shove it where the dun doesn't shine

For all those who are confused...the car was towed, not clamped (ignore title) and by the time I posted at first , the car was already about 20 miles away.

The guy who runs it is storing it in a garden centre, as the address where the car is , is the same as his other business.

He has gone to pay the owner of the clamping company a visit at his home address, will find out tomorrow what happened :)

I can't say what I think as we have a no swearing policy.

But to put it simple, i'd be around there to get the car back.

Stupid opportunist thieving *******!

I too will echo the £500 being a silly high fee for illegal parking etc.
Hope it gets sorted out.

One thing about this thread though - it looks like we have a new thread that brings out the Internet bravado.
It used to be the TV Licensing threads, you know the ones, the weekly ones.
They quickly get filled with how when the license people come around people slam doors in their faces, lie, threaten etc
When in fact it is quite safe to say most of those people have never been paid a visit or if they have probably acted totally different.

It then turned to the religious threads, the weekly ones about people calling around at your house attempting to "sell their religion".
They quickly fill with stories of rudeness, lies and general BS - when in fact most people will have either simply said "Not Internested" or similar before closing the door.

Now it's the clampers and stories of hacksaws, angle grinders etc.
It really is true - you can say you do whatever you like online, you really can be anyone you dream you want to be...

Not 100% sure, but I don't believe it matters what the signs say, it does not make it legal. There must be some law to prevent extortion, which is what this is. The problem is your mate wants his car back quickly, doing things properly will take time.

If he has another car, the time and the money, then he should go to town against these gits. Refuse to collect his car, inform the police that you consider therir actions to be extortion and get a solicitor involved. And don't back down until the car is returned, but still take them to court. Alas very few of us have the time or money to do this.

I'm pretty sure that for a car to be clamped/towed/ticketed there have to be signs up saying that it's illegal to park in the area and these actions will be taken. If there were no warnings, the people who took the car wouldn't have much to stand on.
