Pah, amateurs

One of my friends has a contract to take lots of ex military and fire gear.

He has lots of those tools that are designed to cut open cars, they are what you need.
Nice clean cut, no sparks.

I've been mulling over doing something like this recently but even £200 @ £50 a clamp / wheel is too expensive for me :)

Am I correct in thinking that it is illegal for the clampers to remove any device you choose to attach to your tyres ? If so, why not just fit a bicycle d-lock to each wheel ? That should be enough to prevent the attachment of the majority of clamping devices.

I got a text from my dad a few weeks ago:

Four wheel clamps: £50 each.

Putting them in the back of the Estate when you want to go anywhere: very little effort.

Parking your mum's car wherever the **** you want to: £priceless

Judging by this thread, it's cheaper than being clamped once...

Real cars are so low you can't get clamps on anyway....

This guy's got bad luck :p

Yesterday his wife filled his car up with petrol (it's a diesel) and drove it till it stopped.

Going to cost him an absolute fortune to repair

I did that once, except I only put (my only) £8 of petrol into my diesel car before I noticed.

I went into the garage and told them, and asked if I could come back later to pay if I filled the rest of the car up with diesel. Surprisingly enough they had no problems with it. All I had to do was fill in a form! :)

My car was hella smokey for ages, but I never put petrol in it again! :)

As far as i know its illegal to damage the actual clamp however you can remove the padlock (if they have used that method) as long as you have a replacment with keys.

There are a lot of evil people out there clamping cars as people do their xmas shopping so my advice to all is be careful where you park, and also cary a heavy duty pair of bolt cutters and replacemnt padlock in the boot if you are worried.

I do feel sorry for the guy as I think hes been ripped off but i wish you all the best and have a good crimbo bud

Depends what type of clamp it is!

For some clamps all you have to do is deflate your tyre, handbrake off and roll car backwards out of the clamp!

As for your friend he could:

a) Set fire to car at night and claim on clampers insurance (no fine and new car)

b) Beat clamper with something until he gives car back

c) Give me a shout on msn and i will get it back for him for £200 ;)

trespass is a civil issue, not criminal ;) it's only a problem if you cause criminal damage/commit criminal acts lol

True, but....

If a trespasser refuses to leave after the third trime of asking by the property owner, the owner is entitled to have them removed using "reasonable force" ie they can be escorted off the premises, or have them removed by the police.

Were they any signs saying clamping in use?

Or were the signs saying no parking between time x-x covered by shubbery?

If either of the above go back to said spot take photos, and threaten them with legal action.

That's what I did when my car got towed, it worked a treat (got me money back)

I used to work on an industrial estate where one nameless plastics company always got arsey about parking because the staff where I worked used to park all over so the landlord got a private clamping outfit in. They did put notices up and everyone parked correctly appart from the nameless plastics company trade clients who were clamped with worrying regularity... it's almost as if someone was calling the clamper when they parked up

The same clamper did clamp one of our works van's but bottled it as the steady stream of unhappy people in blue and grey uniforms kept emerging from both warehouses and the promise of 30 more van's & crews returning before 5pm. He decided it wasn't worth the grief and ripped up the ticket.
