First of all: His graphics card (7600 GT) is being detected by windows and it even says the resolution is in 1280x1024 but the screen appears like it is in 600x480 or something.

Secondly: When he tries to shutdown the computer it just restarts and this also happens with hibernate

He has both integrated and the PCI-E drivers installed, is this ok?

Does the integrated need to be deleted in the BIOS or is just the device manager ok?

Thanks

he has found out that with the PCI-E card enabled then it wont shutdown but with the integrated installed it will shutdown and the computer is fine.

Does this sound like a problem with the card to you?

P.S. this is a brand new computer with graphics card purchased seperatly

will it restart without drivers for anything installed?

It will restart no problem.

Its just like when you do a fresh install of Windows - you have no drivers for any of your discrete devices (such as GFx, mobo chipset etc) installed until you boot up and install them! :)

just a quick question about the BIOS

Ive only done formatting before so not familiar with this part of the BIOS

Is it just like on startup-press f8 or delete and then is there a Hardware Settings part or something?

How do i find the enable PCI-E bit in the BIOS?

Thanks

Little bit dependent on your BIOS, but when you boot your computer there will be an option to press 'X' to enter set up (where 'X' can be delete or f10 or a few other keys).

You then just have a look through the options (surfable with the arrow keys and normally changeable with page up / page down). There will be an option for what GFx to use first - choose PCI-e (or whatever option isn't onboard).

He took some pictures of what he found, i cant see a Disable Onboard GFx tho :(

You want the integrated peripherals menu ;)
There should be an integrated graphics bit there- Pretty self-explanatory once you've found it. (Should pretty much be enabled/ disabled)

What motherboard does he have and have you tried updating the graphics drivers? :)

Init Display First, its set to ' OnChipVGA ' , change that firstly.

What does OnChipVGA mean? is this the integrated bit?

a quick google says OnChipVGA is what im looking for

Thanks a lot guys, ill post the results soon :p

UPDATE: He has got it all working!

The problem was he had the monitor plugged into the integrated monitor port rather than the graphics integrated port

i knew it would be the most obvious thing

anyway thanks for all your help ;)
