He's got a HP desktop tower and about 5/6 days ago he started to have problems with getting into windows, it would show the Vista boot screen and then the screen would go black and show nothing more until restarted. The computer at this point was still actually working as you could hear it logging in, just not see it.

Things we've tried:

- Disabled the video card (8500GT) while in safe mode, this gets us into windows normally.
- Tried updating video drivers, this didn't work.
- Tried reseating the video card, nada.
- I even tried my old X800XT, worked fine first time, but after drivers were installed, nothing once again.
- Tried looking in the BIOS for options as it has onboard, it is set to PCI-E x16

Any suggestions?

It's using a VGA cable, it only has one I believe, has a VGA > DVI adapter as the card only has DVI, HDMI and TV out.

Edit:

- We also tried connecting monitor to the onboard graphics at which point we could enter windows normally.
