When on the login screen, presuming it's the XP prettyfied login, try pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL twice, then using "Administrator" or "Admin" and leaving a blank password. Chances of it working are slim, but give it a go... If you do manage to login, you could change other users passwords from within the Admin account.

Let's be clear first.

The Bios Password has nothing to do with the Window's password. If you're Bios password was the issue then that's great and dead easy to fix but it isn't so let's ignore that for now.

Now the problem you're having is with the Window's password. The only way I know of to get round the Windows password is by using a program called Bart PE. The problem with this is that Bart PE requires an original Windows Installation disc to allow it to work.

If you can get hold of any original Windows installation disc for the version of Windows on your friend's laptop then post and I'll explain how to get back in.

If you can't then I am afraid their is nowt you can do, at least that I know of.

Okay you need the following things.

- Copy of Bart PE, download from www.nu2.nu/pebuilder
- Windows Installation Disc for the copy of Windows to be Fixed (In this case XP as Bart Pe won't work with anything else.)
- A copy of Windows Password Renew, download from www.tinyurl.com/nr6cy
- Blank CD
- A spare PC to set up the recovery disc

Bart PE is a cut down version of Windows XP that can be run from a CD.

1. Install Bart PE on to your PC
2. Copy ALL the files from your Windows Installation CD on to your hard-drive and now ensure the source file in Bart PE is pointing to the folder you copied these files too.
3. Unzip the Windows Password Renew program in to c:\pe\plugin folder. This is the default plugin directory for Bart PE.
4. In Bart Pe click the Plugins button and ensure Sala's Password Renew is enabled. Once you have done this you can now select Burn to CD/DVD
5. Now you have the CD stick it in the Laptop you're trying to recover and allow it to boot from the CD. It will load the Bart PE Windows interface. This interface will have a GO menu in the bottom left corner. Select Sala's Password Renew from the menu and allow it to load.
6. Once it has loaded click on Renew existing user password. Follow this and select the account you wish to create a new password for. Enter a new password twice and click install

You should now be able to shut down and boot Windows normally entering the new password for the account you selected.

Hope that helps. I am not saying it will work 100% it did when I had to recover my sister's PC but doing this without seeing the PC is a different matter and I was able to use the ORIGINAL XP install disc as well. Give it a try, worse that can happen is you'll still be stuck.

yaiks! Run out of battery i will continue tommorow, thanks for your help mate!
