A friend asked me to help with her macbook, I have a clue when it comes to Windows but when it comes to Apple not so much so hoping maybe I can get some new ideas of what to do form people on here who are tech savvy with Apple products.

It is a Macbook, I think out of warranty and I don't know what version of OS.

I have tried fixing the permissions as suggested by a website but didn't have any effect, I keep getting kernel errors when I try and load something like numbers / itunes or stuff like that, and comes up with the usual

you must restart your system.

Any ideas for me to try.

Im worried it could be a duff Hard drive or something like that after reading certain stories on the web

Worst case scenario try taking it into an Apple store. I have heard countless cases where they have provided support even after warranties have expired. One of the many reasons I love Apple's support sometimes
