Friend looking to a build a compute for 500-600 squid, suggested this. Any improvement suggestions?

Compatability ok?

Comes to £589

Any help much appreciated,

Cheers.

Looks good to me.

Is your friend looking to overclock, as would probably suggest getting a 2160/2180 CPU instead of the 4400.

Morning :-)

I would go with something like the following instead, overall you get:

  • Better graphics card (double the RAM)
  • Better power supply + case option
  • Better monitor, has better constrast ratio.
  • Bigger capacity hard drive, and is SATA not PATA
  • Better motherboard, based on IP35 rather than 650i
  • SATA based DVD Writer instead of PATA
Other than that it's the same nearly. The RAM is different but it's cheaper and just as good as the GeIL. The CPU is a very minor drop down and you wouldn't ever notice the difference really, but it's much cheaper than the E4400. The graphics card is different also, it's cheaper but it's better. The OcUK are still great cards but they are just not branded - exactly the same card and you don't have to pay a huge premium because of the brand name. The monitor is better, however it's currently out of stock so you might want to contact OcUK to find out when those monitors are back in stock. If it's ages away then I would just get the ImageQuest which is only £5 difference.

Good point about the mobo, didnt notice that it wasnt the p35 chipset. Having that will enable your friend to go to the new intel cpus if he wants to in the future without having to mess around updating the BIOS etc.
