Hi All

My Friends PC was on when it had a fall from standing position to flat on its side, the computer stayed on and seemed to work fine. We later tried to play a game and he kept disconnecting for some reason so decided to call it a night and turn it off.

The next day when he went to turn it on it wouldn't boot past the windows logo and would end on a black screen which would restart and loop after 5 or so minutes.

I have tried to boot to safe mode but when the drivers are loading it freezes and goes no further.

I have reset the ram, gpu (tried to put some back plates he ordered on them) but to no avail.

I am planning to reset the cmos battery sometime since this solved a issue with the GPU when he first got an upgrade.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I would scan the hard disk to make sure he hasn't damaged it when it fell.

That's pretty much what I think has happened, Is there any utilities you'd recommend that I can use from boot CD/DVD

Or do you mean physically check the HDD?

I would personally try a utility like HD sentinel as it will test the drive with smart and will give you a "accurate" health status of the drive aswell as checking for bad areas/damage

However as far as I'm aware this can only been done from within the operating system so you could only do it if another pc was spare.

Thanks for this, I live in the same flat so we could use my PC to test the HDD.
