Gentle reader, a couple of days ago I compiled, for your spooky pleasings, an entire gallery filled with the most creepy, mysterious and unsettling cases and photographs that sprang to mind. There are about thirty entries in there, so hopefully something for everyone. The gallery actually went viral straight away and hit the front page of Imgur—so apologies if, like a pair of Japanese vending-machine knickers—it feels a little bit used. I’ve included one entry below to whet your insatiable appetites.

I hope you all have a very enjoyable and safe Hallowe’en. Oh, and don’t have nightmares if you read the gallery in the dark...

The Amityville Ghost Boy

This is yet another striking photograph.

Some say the young-looking figure peeking over the bannister is a demon with glowing eyes, others that it bears an uncanny resemblance to one of the young DeFeo boys that was murdered in the house by Ronald Junior. After the story of the Lutz Family’s experiences of the Amityville house broke to the public an investigation was led by “infamous demonologists” Ed and Lorraine Warren in 1976. Photographer Gene Campbell set up a camera on the second floor to automatically take pictures at certain intervals. Amongst many, many uninteresting exposures, this one stood out.

I haven’t really had the chance to research this thoroughly but it is worth pointing out that, in general, there is a huge amount of skepticism surrounding the Amityville saga. For instance, some have shown that the figure in this picture resembles one of the Warren’s investigators at the time: Paul Bartz, pictured above. Comparing the photographs, they are certainly seem to be wearing similar shirts, but to me the match isn’t quite perfect at first glance, so who knows?

Fake or not, the Amityville story is fascinating and well worth a dig into, especially the original DeFeo murders as there a hefty amount of weirdness associated with them, too.

Great stuff.

The Amityville horror is an interesting story, but I can't help but view anything the Warrens are involved in with great suspicion. A bit too publicity hungry for my liking.

The house is a lovely, very upper crust, family home now, with no incidents whatsoever.

I don't suppose you know exactly where on Google maps Borley Rectory stood do you?

Another great read :) Glad to see you're still doing these

Thanks! As I have to write these up quickly due to work commitments, I'm going to cherry-pick future entries from the gallery above for a while, but I have a really good one in the works - one I hadn't heard of and it's really spooky!

Great post :) I love this stuff. 'The Hands Resist Him' is a great painting, only marginally less terrifying than the subsequent one he did as an update.
