Possible spoilers in questions:

I started watching this years ago but gave up at the end of the first Season. I recently started watching it again from Season 1 and have just started watching Season 4.

I am struggling to keep up with the story TBH - these alternate Universes/timelines are confusing :(

Now Peter has disappeared, I have no idea what happened to the baby of the alternate Olivia Dunham, the Walters are working together apparently to prevent each Universe from blowing up and I'm just like 'WTF?!'

Does it get any clearer?

Yes it does and it's never too tricky. They just leave you with some unexplained ideas for a few episodes at a time occasionally. It all works out in the end (pretty much anyway).

I think I must have missed a couple of episodes where they jumped forward 20+ years and are now living in the weird observer world. Hoped it was only temporary and would revert back to present day but its not looking likely.

Yeah I saw that but the ones Ive been watching from the states for the past few months are all firmly set 20+ years in the future and that really disconnects me from a series.

Dollhouse did it and I instantly switched off to it all as the premise of the other series/eps were all current day.
