Hi Guys!
I have just noticed that my Frio Advanced is very loud! The spec's say it goes up to 44db, which makes a fair bit of noise in my opinion.

The cooler is brilliant, but would like to change the fans for something a bit quieter.
Problem being that the fans are 13cm according to thermaltake's website:

Has anyone got one of these coolers? Any fans you could recommend as replacements please? Would a 12cm fan be able to fit?

Thanks

Looks like the fan size is 120mm with a slightly wider fan body, so I reckon that a 120mm fan will fit right in.

And this is the problem..

800~2000RPM

Anything that goes up to 2000rpm is going to be noisy.

Depending on your tolerance to noise you might be better off looking towards fans that run less than 1500rpm, and if you like a quiet system then less than 1000rpm.

You could have course slow the existing fans down with those resistor cables you can buy, if the Frio's fans are normal 4 or 3 pin fan connections. You can just as easily PWM an undervolted fan as you can a 12v fan, it just won't go so fast, and I suppose possibly stall at lower speed.

Thanks for the reply Tealc!

I just tried a little experiment and you are completely right - the stock frio fans are 120mm fitment, but the fan blades are 130mm, so the plastic shroud bends out to accompany it.

I just slotted two of these: Akasa Viper Fans

They clipped straight on as replacements, offering similar cooling and they are so much quieter! :)

Just got to get a gpu cooler now to replace my Dirt 3 6950 card.

So for anyone who is searching for this in the future - any 120mm fans will clip in to the Frio Advanced CPU Cooler as direct replacements!

Good times

Cheers Doyll, the Viper fans are pwm, so the computer is whisper quiet now :)
I am ordering 2 of the 140mm ones soon to replace the Viper's I just took off the case, so will give them a go.

Cheers

Strange that it's much quieter now though as the Frio Advanced also had PWM fans, so you'd expect them to behave similiarly. Did you have the Frio fans hooked up in the same way?

Yeah, had them hooked up exactly the same, just seems that the Viper fans run a lot quieter, which does make a bit of sense as all fans have different noise ratings.

Now to find a cooler for my hd 6950 and I will be nice and quiet! :)
