So, the Asus P8P67 Pro has a single CPU_FAN header, with 4 pins. I'm going to need to buy some arcticlean or equivalent to reseat the heatsink when replacing the board as part of the intel recall (which, plus labour and finding time off for the deliveries/dispatches, leaves me feeling kind of grumpy about the whole afair).
The question is what should I do with my Frio? The fans are both 3 pin, and currently attached to CPU_FAN and one of the CHA_FAN headers, with the manual controls capping them at ~80% for a great mix of speed and silence (100% speed makes them screech like witches!). Obviously, the ideal situation is to have them both running from CPU_FAN and matching speeds, preferably under PWM management (i.e. 4 pin). Removing the fans from the cooler and replacing them is not really an option because the rubber pins are liable to tear apart first.
There's a 4 pin splitter by Akasa on the OCUK storefront, but I've seen conflicting advice as to whether this would work, especially given the imprecise manual controls on the fans, which would probably confuse the board/bios.
I *could* purchase a new cooler with 4 pin fans, plus the splitter but this seems a bit wasteful and I wouldn't know what to do with the old Frio.
Advice?
(I'm terrible at wiring and electronics, and have no suitable tools to hand so bestill any urge to suggest home-made solutions)
(Aside for people googling P8P67 Pro & Frio: it fits, but one of the fans covers one RAM slot. The other three are readily accessible, even with tall DIMMs such as Vengeance)
