While I've been impatiently waiting for the Asus dsl-ac68u to come into stock. I've stumbled across this Fritzbox 7490.
It can replace not only your bt openreach modem but also your dect phone base.Thats some super decluttering, one unit instead of three.:) ..
just wondered if anyone has one, or any thoughts???

I was about to post the exact same thing... Not sure an all in one is going to be as good as a dedicated bt modem though. been looking at both the fritz, asus, billion and draytek but I am undecided, I want to throw AC and Dect in the mix just to make it even less of a choice. I did initially want it just for sky and there was all sorts of problems relating to Mer and option 61 then extracting password etc etc. Decided to jump ship to plusnet so saves that hassle as I don't think any apart from billion have the mer setting without messing with firmware. I have a corner table unit which is looking very cluttered as well atm ^^^ :p

Well I took the plunge & brought it off the rainforest complete with the fritz fon mtf.
The first one that turned up had previously been opened and didn't even have a uk plug,so that went back and to be fair the replacement came next day.

Setting up was a little frustrating for a novice like me, entered the user name password etc before connecting to the internet. Disconnected the Or modem connected the Fritzbox lots of green flashing lights looked promising, but no nope pppoe timeout error appeared on the screen. turns out after 2 hrs searching a little greyed out vlan area needed ticking and 101 entered.
Once connected though getting 19mbps up just under 76 mbps down which is a couple of mbps better than before. Streams the netflix service without any stuttering and can game at the same time.;)

Next the Dect telephone, waste of money. Sounds like a late eighties analogue mobile phone, might be better has a voip phone but haven't had time to set it up yet.:(
Cheers Kev
