From 4 Gig to 8 Gig Memory Issues

Ive been rather happy with my pc recently everyhting is running fine and what not but I though being as I use vista 64 bit I may aswell get another set of 4 gigs of ram and have some hefty 8 Gig memory

So I bought another pair of these

They arrvied today aswell (Wohoo)

So I inserted them into the motherboard as you do loaded up gets past post fine gets to the loading windows part then OMGZ blue screen of death. And I was like wth? so tried re booting same blue screen of death.

So I thought ok took the 2 extra sticks of ram out and hey guess what it loaded fine. So I decided to swtich the memory sticks over see if 1 of them was faulty. But no change the sticks over and it laoded up fine with just 4 gigs.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing my pc to crash when I have 8 gigs of memory?

I heard it could be a voltage problem or something but tbh I dont have a clue when it comes to setting voltages and would probably set my PC on fire if I did

Sooo any ideas lads?

Yes mate was one of the first things I did but beforehand I hadnt lol

There is 1 issue that might cause it I currently do not have the Sp1 pack installed for vista 64 as I lost my cd key and need to order another Copy of windows lol so I can update to sp1 with a valid key

Dunno if that would cause the issue

Memory set to stock settings in the BIOS (not the problem but probably the cure)?

All memory settings are at auto atm because I really dont know if i need to change anythin

Up the northbridge voltage by as much as 0.1v to boost it for running 4 sticks


Is your machine overclocked? Because running 4 sticks can limit your overclock.

Nah it iant overclocked I wud up the northbridge voltage but I dont know what the beggining voltage is it doesnt tell me heh what should it be at?

It will be at the lowest setting if you haven't touched it yet.

Ok I tried increasing the voltage I did it 3 times and still it crashes on loading windows.

Back to 4 Gigs agen lol im out 36 quid now think of the amount of beers I cudda bought with that money!!

I may try a full reinstall of windows once its delivered and see if that fixes it it prob wont though lol
