Super excited! My Intel 12600k just arrived from the USA! Shipped and delivered to my door for only £166 VAT included, feeling like I scored a good deal.

Specs:
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z690-A Gaming WiFi D4
  • RAM: 4x16GB Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO SL
  • OS Drive: Crucial P3 Plus 500GB M.2 PCIe Gen4 NVMe
  • Storage:
    • 2x 1TB SATA SSDs
    • 1x 2TB SATA SSD (currently in use)
    • WD Black SN770 2TB NVMe SSD (arriving soon)
  • GPU: (temporary) AMD Radeon RX 6800 (non-XT)

Notes:

  • This is the first Intel build since the X99 platform, having used AMD since AM4 launched. Excited to see how it performs!

  • GPU will be upgraded later, sticking with the current 6800 for now.

Is it really a good deal when you could have just slotted in a faster am4 CPU or is there a reason for the swap ?
I made a deal with my wife to swap CPUs. I found a good deal on a case and PSU, so I figured I could upgrade my system and pass down my current CPU to her. She primarily uses her computer for 4K gaming with a 4070 GPU, while I game at 1440p. The 5800X3D will likely benefit her setup more given the higher resolution and demanding graphics card. She currently is using a 3600

BUT.. we have all done stupid stuff like this. and the 12600 will be faster than any AM4 chip thats not 3D so you will feel a small upgrade. i had a 13500 that is just a tad faster then a stock 12600k because of the extra E-cores, it was a very good gaming CPU But i did pair it was DDR5, as i would recommend you do it a good step up in performance.

in the last 12 months i have genuinely.... so i cant talk about making silly upgrade, but some times we just like to play
i went 3600>5600>5800x>5700x>7700x>11700k>10400>11700KF>10400F>13500>5600>5700x3d

i still have 7700x and 5700x3d system
Like I said it was more of a play, I realise the 3d chips is much faster in games. Im sure ill be fine, the 12600k is just a stop gap until I start working fulltime, then Ill prob upgrade to 14600k or 14700k. Going to stick with DDR4 and the same board though. I can like without the 20 or 30fps ddr5 makes.

couple of pics, no gpu yet Want a white 4070s or a 7900GRE did manage to sort the cable over the cpu fan tidied it away

did a 10 minute blast with CinebenchR23 hottest core was 67c and it was running @4500 and the max core boost I got was just under 4900, I didnt think the NZXT fan would manage but no problems. need to get rid of the fan at the back but so far happy. One thing that I did do was update the bios, and omg it took for ages compared to my AM4 Rig.

Oh the case fans were some

Thermalright TL-C12CW-S 3 for £12 got two packs and attached them to a

Thermalright TL-C12CW-S

Couldnt hear the fans in the pc over my deskfan. Oh excuse the milk bottle in the bottom photo that belongs to my 18month old.
