Have a gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R and 4gb geil black dragon was thinking about getting a quad either the q8200 or the q6700 , worth the jump? my board supports the q8200 will the memory be ok?

At the moment my pc does some encoding, ripping, internet not gaming at all i sold my 8800gt recently and not sure what to get but that can wait a while longer!

I would agree with siumatfung, leave the Q8200, its not a great chip, esp if you want to OC, the multi is far too low to make it useful. And if your not gaming a basic GPU is fine.

my graphics card for now is a 4350

the q8200 uses less power than the q6700 would i actually notice the difference ?

If i remember right the Q8200 has something like half the cache of the Q6700. I would go for the Q6700 based on that alone. I imagine the cache would come in handy for encoding.

afaik its priced higher as it got a rep for overclocking higher, which meant that everyone and there mum bought one as it was the best bang for buck chip. I think its still just overpriced because of that, but i was under the impression (confirmed on this forum) that the 6700 was a better chip....which it should be, but it was originally more expensive.

Unless theyve changed something with the G0 stepping tha ti missed.

The q6700 on ocuk is a G0 varient, so will clock as good (if not better) than the Q6600. The reason they are cheaper at the moment is because OcUK got a decent deal on a large batch of them. :)

Would you say the Q9550 is better chip for the extra £40 it costs? Thinking about moving to a C2Q from a E5200 and very tempted by a Q9550 - just dno if its worth the money.

Will want it to last a year or two though...

ps3ud0

got my q6700 in now and am happy with it, temps about 30 idle upto 46 converting video and got to 51 when ran prime95

You wouldnt noticed much difference in most games and home applications.

And there will soon be another prize drop when the i5 comes out in 3 months.

I wouldnt upgrade unless a 775 quad reach below £100.
