Ive just gone from a clocked Opteron [email protected] to X2 3800 toledo core.

Ive got the 3800 running at 2.8ghz on 1.35volts. First I had it at 1.45 and it went to 72c on load after 3dmark 06 so i lowered it to 1.35 thinking it wouldnt work. It does. I could try getting 3ghz out of it at 1.45 volts but im not sure whether 72c + is all too healthy, is it?

Got the X2 from a mate for £65

at 1.35 volts now and load goes to about 52c. I reckon i could get 3ghz out of it if i tried.

Surely the computer will be judge of if the temps are too high by resetting or freezing or giving a blue screen etc?

Try Orthos for CPU testing and Coretemp for temp monitoring ;)

Then you'll see if it's stable ;)

2 hours of supreme commander works without crashing as does windows, other games and all 3d mark tests. thats stable enought for me as i dont play orthos :) may try for 2.9ghz with same volts

Orthos isnt a game btw :P its a benchmark tool that makes your CPU scream out in agony "STOP, PLEASE STOP IT HURTS!!!"

I know. I dont have a pc to look at my cpu scream though, I have it to play a few games, play music, watch films and browse the net

now at 300x10, 1.375volts on a 166 divider so ram is still at 250

55c highest temp reported on MBM5. thats running 8mb superPI

just tried 3dmark 03 and 05. Both crash to windows at 3ghz. Strange that 8mb pi works, maybe its because my x1800xt is clocked at 700core 800memory aswell

Superpi doesn't stress the CPU as much as Prime or the 3DMark CPU tests so it'll generally pass under lower volts when the other 2 will causes crashes. What stepping is your x2 3800 btw, it's obviously a good one, my Opty doesn't even clock that far on 1.375v :p

Got it at 290x10 now on a 180 divider. Its a Toledo, stepping 2, revision E6.
Not sure of the codes, i forgot to look before I put it in
