I see this is on Sale at the mo- The trailers make it look like loads of fun but as it is yet another EA game I am cautious about buying!

Is it any good? is it still being updated?

Edit- and does it have a sandbox-y mode?

Based on all of your recommendations I bought it

I have to say, it is rather excellent!! It has a rather steep learning curve but there are many tutorial and guides in game. I found it easiest to the do the last option called "learn by doing" or something.

I ended up making a raft and then fitting wings to it- it sort of flew!!

I then made a "destroyer"

Next stop will be learning how tofire cannons
