just bought a xonar dg5.1, works great sounds great with speakers plugged into rear, but when i plug headphones into front port sound cuts out but no sound coming thro headphones.
in the asus xonar dg audio center it recognises that im plugging into the front as it changes from rear to front.

any ideas

It should change to FP headphone...has it?

If so then my next guess is that your front panel isn't plugged into your sound card's audio header.

My auto-switching was a bit buggy, so I just left them plugged in all the time then used the control panel to switch outputs.

Robbie. A question. If the front panel connector, is not connected to the DG, how can the DG detect when headphones are connected to the FP?

yes its connected as marsman states how would it know if it wasnt.
i dont know why it isnt giving sound.
specs are:
sound card xonar dg5.1
headphones sony mdr-v150
front port lianli bz uo1

It did for me, even though the front panel of my case is HDA I can't get sound unless it is set to AC97.

just tried swapping over in program and makes no bit of difference
gonna pull open case and swap header

ok so that seem to make difference! putting ac97 header in and swapping in program it works, but now its not auto switching when i plug in.

Reboot with headphones in and FP set to headphone.
If that doesn't work, reboot without headphones in and FP set to speakers, then plug the headphones in with the control panel program loaded.

still wont work:( oh well guess wen im playing game wont take long to swap in audio manager

I too had many a problem with auto switching, it actually turned out to be my front audio jacks are a bit... dodgy. The audio works fine but the ground pin which activates the auto switching doesn't seem to sit properly.

If it's software then the UNi drivers fix some auto sensing issues, worth a shot.

To be fair, I preferred not having the auto sensing anyway as it means I can have my headphones plugged in and still use my speakers without having to mess around disconnecting it :)
