Hey guys.

I recently upgraded from a Shuttle XPC system, to a full ATX tower. :)

I've got the Gigabyte GA-945GCMX-S2 Series motherboard in my new case. I connected up my front USB and then my front audio, as per manual info.

However the the port doesn't work.:(

Maybe I don't have a peice of software installed, or BIOS settings?

Could anyone help here, please?

Many thanks! :D

Wow, from a tiny shuttle to a monstrous full tower, what a change!

Does the back audio port work? If so it indicates that it's probably not a software issue. The most obvious thing to check is that you have it all wired correctly.

Yes, back audio ports work.

Well, I really don't know how else to wire it. I have connected it as said in the manual. However the manual didn't have the two extra wires that I had on the connector. Which are L-Ret and R-Ret, what ever this do/mean? I just connected them next to the L and R pins.

The port also supports HD audio....maybe that is a reason?

AC97 and HD audio front ports use different pinouts.
A Google search should find the differences for you.

As ns400r says, the pin arrangements for HD audio and AC97 are different so you need to make sure you're connecting to the right header.

You will need L-ret and R-ret connected properly before the ports will work. Without them the circuit isn't complete so you get no sound.

Well I am copying the AC97 audio pin out. The header for both HD and AC97 is the same. But manual shows two different pin outs. One for HD and one for AC97 on the same header.

Maybe I should try connecting HD? :(
Where do the REt's go?
