Front bay fan controllers

I'd like to jump in on this thread if the OP doesn't mind. I've just got myself an FT02 and it's not quite as quiet as I thought it'd be, in fact it's probably louder than my old NZXT Phantom.

I'm looking at some fan controllers so that I can run all the fans on really low when I'm just browsing the web and listening to music, and these are the ones I've come up with so far, any suggestions/recommendations?

  • Zalman ZM-MFC1
  • Scythe Kaze Master Pro
  • Lamptron FC8

Now these get progressively pricier and pricier, but at the same time looks go up accordingly in my opinion, so I'd like to know if anyone with one of the above or another fan controller from the same brand could give me some pointers, thanks.

If you have a fair few fans it's worth getting one, recommend a lamptron fc5 v2, wonderful piece of kit.

Can the guys/gals with the Lamptron FC post what speeds they are able to take fans from > to, so I can judge what the adjustment is. Also if you are using led fans on the Lamptron, does it affect the brightness of the leds?

I am very happy with mine. I am very sensitive to noise levels so it's great to be able to set them at ~700RPM and increase them a little during a heavy gaming session! Fans can't be quiet and move a lot of air at the same time, no matter what the specs say.

Corsair 200mm fan 0> 120rpm > 670rpm
Corsair 120mm fans 0> 150rpm > 1380rpm
no led's

Take it your in a 500r bedazzled? Swapped out my stock corsair fans due to the lack of led with the fc5.

ahh, must be a corsair fan thing in that case, I was starting to think it was just related to the 500R fans! Thought I'd broken something the first time I turned it on. Swapped the 120mm's for Ap121's and the 200mm for a megaflow.

The problem with all the recommendations for the Lamotron FC5 V2 is that my case has 6 fans (3 intakes at the bottom, 2 on the HSF and 1 as outtake at the top) so only having 4 controls would be a bit of a problem, unless I use splitter cables which I'm not sure if I could. Any help with this? I'm leaning towards the Zalman MFC1, mostly because it's half the price of the Lamptron.

Anyone got anything else to add? I'm now considering the Akasa AK-FC-08BK FC Six Fan Controller as well. It has the same 0V-12V functionality of the Lamptron and is also the cheapest so far, any thoughts?

You can run more than one fan per channel but if you want to control them individually you'll need one channel per fan. I'd go for the Lamptron FC8.

I have a lamtptron fc8, its amazing!

Only annoying thing is the power leads are pretty short. Other than that its the best controller going.

I really like the look and specs of the lamptron, it's got everything I need and more, and would probably see me through several builds/possibly be the first and last fan controller I ever bought! I'm just unsure about spending double the cost of most other fan controllers on it. I suppose I'll think about it over Christmas, see if I get some money that'll cover it. ;)

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice, more is always welcome.

I use the akasa one it works well but the lights are too bright when i get time i will remove them/change them to red.

again out of stock, I also have the same finish on my lian li case so it was an obvious choice for me.
