front firewire, how?

hi,

my antec solo case has a front firewire/ieee 1394 port but my mainboard hasn't got firewire.

are there any pci firewire controller cards with pinouts or case-connectors i could use? preferably usb+firewire cards with front panel connectivity for both.

as an alternative i guess there are adapters for the normal internal usb/firewire connectors to the case connectors. where could i get those?

cheers

i have seen cables that convert from internal header connector to external firewire port however this was on a competitors site and was about £5 ex vat :S

just gonna look on the oc website to see if i can find one, also you would still need to buy a firewire card if you dont have a firewire port on the back

ok overclockers do sell the cable

cable!!!!

this would allow you to connect the front firewire port to a pci firewire card

firewire card

that card has an internal connector , its still standard firewire but would mean you wouldnt have to have the wire dangling out of the case

thanks a lot! i'll order straight away.

i just wonder why the manufacturers don't add front panel connectors to their controller cards...

I went for exactly the same solution as jackassuk56 mentions to add firewire to my system.

I've seen a few firewire cards with header type connectors, but the majority of them seem to have internal firewire ports. Shame really.
