Front Fog Lights

Sidelights are meant to be used at "lighting up time", or, when you are parked and it's foggy.

When I asked my driving instructor (last week) about when to use sidelights, he said "What's the proper name for them?". I said "Parking lights..?", to which he replied "Yep, hint is in the name."

He said to use those when parked on a dark country road or on a road where the speed is over 30MPH, and headlights when it starts getting dark. He said not to drive with sidelights because they're not really bright enough to matter.

My car has both sidelighta and parking light options on the lamp switch, using the same bulb.

Also, I'd contest them "not being bright enough to matter". A few times Ive noticed that Ive not seen a car in dim conditions without a double take because it had no lights illuminated. They aren't bright, granted, but they can help you pick out cars quicker in dim conditions. Ergo, I use them quite a lot.

Lets be really generous and say you've got super awesome fogs which give you a whole 1.5 metres of extra light directly in front of you.

You can almost hide 1.5m in front of your bonnet. Even the worst fog lights are better than that.

It's horrible isn't it? I have driven in fog where I was literaly struggling to see much further than the end of the bonnet, and the reflected light from dipped beams just makes it worse.

I have driven in similar conditions, moving at more along walking pace as visabilty was next to none. Just praying everyone else is doing the same really.

I too find myself getting extremely annoyed by these cretins who drive around with them on when it's not foggy. It doesn't give any better visability as Fox has proven, one can only imagine it makes them think they're "cool" by driving around with them on. However, they don't dazzle me, HID's give me that eye watering pleasure =/

The joy... on the way home today I almost went into a ditch thanks to some **** in a 4x4 with blue HID's and fog lights. I could see absolutely zero and lost all my tracking with the road for probably 20 meters. The moment he got past I was actually heading towards the hedgerow and ditch and had to make a rapid course correction. It was weeing of rain and the road was muddy. I am very lucky.

Prior to that I went past a what I believe was a Saxo with a highly illegal HID modification on its reflectors. I could see **** all. Luckily I knew that particular bend like the back of my hand though.

LOL On Forton road on the way home today a white Clio with 4 fog lights in the grille on the bonnet is what I saw, I laughed. WTF is the point ?

My Fogs are god damn useless as they are on most cars with modern projector lamps and xenon lamps.

What annoys me about my car is that, I cannot just have the rear fogs on, you have to have them both on, which is stupid, in 12 years of driving, ive never needed to use the front fogs, the rear yes, but not the front. We just dont get the fog like that anymore.

Just take the bulbs out :p

I have never ever used my front fogs on any of my cars, they dont seem to be effective under any circumstances.

Mercedes like building them into the headlamps too, so i cant even annoy people with them :(

Im sure if they were consistently useful and a required safety feature, they would be standard on all vehicles as rear fogs are, not just higher end models.

I never use my foglights, so instead i wired them up the way 106's are done, when you put full beam on, the fog lights come on too, giving you extra light.

They still work the same (if you turned just fog lights on) but it actually puts them to a better use :)
