I keep getting this bobbing around and poor feeling/handling but im not sure if its front forks or rear shock:(

no matter what adjustments I make I cant seem to get any improvement

rear shock makes this graunching sound when I get off it and the weight is lifted

would a knackered rear shock also cause the front end to bob up n down like that? havn't long renewed the oil in the forks either but its hard to pinpoint

I cant afford to pay someone to set it up though

@shaken were the bearings hard to press out of the knuckle? think mine's due an overhaul, might pickup an 07 or 09 shock i think they bolt straight on to the 98 models with a spacer at the top

I have no idea tbh,ive just read on forums what folks have done

works out cheaper than a proper aftermarket shock for the bike,i think the shock mount/prongs at the bottom is 1mm narrower but I could file that out

can see an 09 shock with just 1 miles use on ebay for £120 tempted but also seen them under £50

@CaNsA yeah I know about the sag,ive got an abba stand so could measure it,handling isn't to bad but it just bobs about and I think the rear shock or bearings have gone

no I wish they did have grease nipples, dont think they added them till the j series 99 onwards not sure

58300 miles so I bet they are scrap by now

oh god!! hope mine aint that bad, today I heard a loudish knock sound coming from the shock area aswell:eek:

been looking and I think an 08 zzr600 shock bolts straight on so might try that as it will be newer (ill shove new bearings/sleeves in the knuckle though)

mines getting real bad now, every bump it graunches, handling is terrible, just aint had time to get it on the stand and check the linkage, pretty sure the bearing are shot

seems to be failing on all the bearings last 8 months, head bearings/rear wheel and sprocket carrier bearings now this

shaken, you know when you replaced your shock bearings, how many come in the kit? just one set where the shock pivots on or does it come with ones for the other two mounting holes?

you have three holes altogether, gonna order some soon

I could swap the knuckle for a j series, those have the grease nipples on them, seen one for £16

also seen this, straight bolt on swap apparently,im tempted to take a punt

seems like I have to remove the rad and whole exhaust just to get one bolt out from the shock linkage:eek:

don't fancy messing that much, not sure if I can get angle grinder in to cut the head of the bolt off,can always buy another and put it in the other side from exhaust

seems a daft way to me

took it to my mechanic mate today, and the whole linkage is seized ,he said the shock isn't doing its job due to the seized linkage,no wonder it kept bobbing about

ive unseized it now,by bouncing on the back end, cant even get the bearings/slider/seals for where the linkage mounts to the frame, discontinued and that's from Kawasaki

looks like im gonna have to take the rad out and whole exhaust off, theres no way I can get in with the angle grinder to cut the head of the bolt off

ive found the seized bearing though its the one where the shock attaches to the linkage, theres no way I can turn the bolt with the ratchet

got the rad out, undone most of the exhaust bolts except for two or three, just cant get them out

might admit defeat and let the shop get them out,i can swap the linkage/shock myself

the bolt holding the bottom of the shock is stuck solid aswell, ill ask them to free it up with the airgun

I knew the exhaust wasn't gonna come off,its never been off since manufacture

think ill be ok riding without a radiator to the bike place? its not far haha

got the exhaust off, been given metal studs/nuts are they fine to use?

lookslike metal ones that came off it but thought they were always copper?

fitted the 08 model shock and linkages, bolted straight on,ill post some pics when im done, just about to refit the radiator and bleed it ect
