Evening all currently sat on my conservatory floor defeated by my new motherboard bundle :)
I recently purchased the krypton z68 650i core i7 pack to update my crappy old packard bell ipower pc and got as far as having placed all the components onto the board and the board back into the tower.
I've got as far as the front I/O connector instructions where it shows 3 2 slot leads going into the asus q-connector which is all good but I don't have any 2 slot leads?

My previous motherboard had a group of 9 pins 5 along the bottom and 4 on top which I believe just one lead fitted onto them.

I apologise for my lack of knowledge here but does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Sounds like your case isn't compatible with the motherboard as it's a specific OEM model. PB are notorious for doing silly things like this, mainly so that you have to get their parts or have it written off etc.

You could possibly get hold of some new plastic 2-pin connectors and remove the cables from the large block (attached to the case wires), then re-wire them in, but that's a lot of work and it's not going to help you right now. Does your motherboard have a power button on it directly? That could do until you sort it out, otherwise you can short the power pins with a screwdriver, but be careful. The easiest fix I can think of would be a new case.

Did you also change your PSU? PB PSUs are usually rubbish, be careful you don't damage that new kit with a naff PSU that's underpowered.

Actually this is not Packard Bell's fault it is ASUS, PB are using the correct front panel header spec while a while back ASUS decided to use thier own stupid layout.

You need to break that connector up in to seperates really, do you have access to any old computer cases that you can pinch some two pin connector from. In the mean time I guess you could remove all of the other cables from the 9/10 block and just leave the power switch one in for the time being. You will need to use a craft knife or very small watchmakers flat head screw driver to get them out.

Thanks for your time guys i really appriciate this :)

Firstly i've had a look at my power supply and it says 240W on the side so i'm guessing this isn't good enough? I will replace this tonight but can a power supply be too powerful and damage things?

Also i'm a bit too nervous to be pulling wires out and replacing them etc so i think i'll just purchase a case for now to make things a bit easier for me, cheers though nightmare.

I tried turning my PC on through a little power button on the motherboard which was lit up when i turned the power on by the mains. When i pressed it there was a tiny beep but nothing happened. Could be the power supply? I've followed all the other instructions in the manual.

Could be a number of things matey, you could try building the components outside of the case as well (put the motherboard on top of it's box etc).

A 240W PSU is not going to be enough, especially if it's not a decent brand. Can you list your entire system spec (CPU, mobo, GPU, RAM, add-in cards, HDD, ODD) and then we can recommend a suitable power supply.

In my experience it's not worth recycling the custom parts from OEM PCs, only the generic ones.

Have you looked at cases yet? There are some decent Cooler Master offerings around £30 and a Xigmatek too. Depends what other kit you have.

Cheers Alex.

I've been and purchased a new case(with the correct wiring) and a new 700w power supply so will see how that goes.

I'll be back to update on hopefully good news this evening or whining if it all goes wrong :)
