Hi all,

I've unsheethed a front I/O port so I can replace the boring beige wires with cable braid in black so it will suit the internals of my powdercoated case.

However!

Taking the sleeving off the Stero/Mic wires revealed what looked like very flimsy tin foil (glossy like sweet wrappers) which obviously got sliced by the razor blade I used to get the sleeving off.

There is a bare wire wraped around the other wires, and I'm presuming this is to create a barrier against interference? It isn't a ground wire as it isn't connected to any pins.

Good idea to find some replacement foil? Or will it be ok if this is what it's for?

I don't use the cable anyways as X-Fi doesn't allow for I/O pins to be connected to it. The bare cable is there, just not the foil. Sleeved over it anyways. I've masked off the ports and started to spray paint the beige plastic housing.
