Hi all,

I have the Antec P180 case and the Gigabyte DQ6 Mobo. I currently have it running from the onboard sound card the front and rear jacks all work ok.

My question is this. I am now planning to up grade to a propper sound card, will i have to change any of the connectors for this new card to untilise the front jacks or will it just be plug and play?

Thanks

Xfi cards don't have the proper connectors for front audio jacks; they want you to buy the drive bay I guess. To make them work you have to get a pin layout from somewhere and wire it yourself. If the front jacks from the P180 are a single plug (rather than individual wires, each with their own end... bit) it won't work.

If you're really fond of your front jacks perhaps look at some of the other brands.

This is from using the Xtreme music, but I think it's the same with higher models too.

According to the creative website the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer card has an 'Intel HD Audio Compatible Front Panel Header (2x5pin)', would this be compatible? I am looking to get the P182 so assume it uses the same front panel connector.

EDIT: Just found this in the online manual for the P180/P182:

Connecting the Audio Ports (AC’ 97 and HDA)
There is an Intel standard 10-pin AC’ 97 connector and an Intel 10-pin HDA (High Definition Audio) connector, you can connect either of them to your motherboard depending on the specification of the motherboard.

So it looks as though the Xtreme Gamer card could be compatible with the Antec P180/P182.

My Stacker has individual wires too, so if you know the pin arragement can wire it up. Get it wrong however and you pop the card. Even worse the stacker has two sets of individual wires (Azalia and Intel HD)

Trying to find front panel, but they're £50. :(

My X-Fi Extreme Gamer is connected to the my front panel directly. Works fine. I do however hav a LianLi PC7 with the cable ends clumped together nicely :)
