I always find front panel audio a nightmare, my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-G33M S2.

The manual says connect the following for AC'97 Front Panel Audio:

1 - MIC
2 - GND
3 - MIC POWER
4 - NC
5 - LINE OUT (r)
6 - NC
7 - NC
8 - NO PIN
9 - LINE OUT (L)
10 - NC

Audio cables available in case:

L-Out L-Ret {Joined}
R-Out R-Ret {Joined}
MIC-IN
MIC-POWER
GND

I've connected MIC-IN to pin 1, GND to 2, MIC-POWER to 3, L-OUT (R) to 5, L-OUT to 9.

As R-OUT and L-OUT are connected together I've placed the ret (L&R) onto pins to 10 and 6 respectivley.

I've looked for settings in the BIOS and this hasn't worked.

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong!?!?!:confused:

Thanks ;)

just remembered, i have a problem with my infrered port, my case gives me an 8 pin connector for it but only have a 6 pin port on my mobo to plug it into  and the connector aint labeled :(

EDIT: not too bad tho as i wouldnt use it anyway :p, but if any1 can help with this ill write it down for the next time i have to open my pc

why are you looking in the bios to check if its worked ?

have you plugged your headphones into it ?

again like my case all 10 pins were in one connector, but it looks like you've got it wired correctly

Right on Pin 1 you have Mic In
Pin 2 is ground
Pin 3 Mic Power

Then you have right in and return on 5 & 6 and left in and return on 8 & 9

It sounds like you got it wired right although ive never seen a case with R&L connected together, its always been Right and Ret that are together, what case is it you have by the way ?

As person above said, there isnt going to be anything in your bios to tell you its right, only thing that could be there (havent used that board) is HD Audio or AC97, you selected AC97?

I have tested it with headphones, all I was checking the BIOS was for any settings that needed to be turned on to enable onboard audio.

I've just got some cheapo case at the moment, unfortunatley I needed a new computer and would rather spend more on the other areas, and save for a case later!

I have selected AC'97 in the BIOS, but still no luck!

M y apologies L-OUT and L-RET are together, the same for R-OUT and R-RET.

Hmm sounds like its wired correctly then, (check again Right out and Right Ret are on pins 5 & 6 and Left out and left Ret are on 9 & 10, if your sure thats done, try heading into the properties for your sound card, if its realtek youll have a red speaker icon in the bottom right hand corner (not the standard grey/black one) open and see if disable front jack is checked/unchecked, try that.

like so...

Hope that helps dude, Good luck (failing all that check you havent unplugged the cable from the other end, the cable will plug into a small board at the front of the case)

cry? i tried to do this once and got the same problem that it was just plain silly to work it out

tempted to say a separate sound card might be easyer to connect to... (and a really good excuse for better audio)
