So my friend has a car which has a broken lock or something on the front passenger door. It opens from the outside but not the inside so probably a dodgy cable release interiorly. Anyway - will it pass its MOT? Or do you need to be able to open the door from the inside?

It's a fail for the reason said above.
Don't panic though it's not a hard job, Whip the panel off & see if the cable/mechanism has popped off or what is broke & replace.
Is the car French per chance ? :p

Not normally no but I've seen them before on older cars.

EDIT: Could be wrong on this as it was a long time ago.

My passenger door had the same problem, sometimes the door would not open and you had to lock the doors and unlock them again for it to release. During the MOT I was crossing my fingers :p

It eventually became extremely irritating and I got the door card off and jiggled everything around, put it back together and it has been fine for some time now.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected guys! It's an Alfa Romeo..

As you say, should be a quick job. What makes it even worse currently is the electric window on that side just makes a grinding noise and doesn't go anywhere so there really is no escape!
