Does anyone know the rough figure cost of having a front wing on an e46 sprayed? (whole panel) I'm due to have mine resprayed sometime next week and it's not going to have a quote generated til then too and just needed a rough idea of what to expect!

I made a minor booboo which defaced my wing the other day and have ordered a new wing pre-primed (only £65 !)

Would you want it fitted too?

Pattern parts are notoriously labour intense to fit and often require work before painting.

I'll be fitting it myself so my local indy are just spraying it and making sure it blends with the neighbouring panels - they're quite easy to remove I've been told by the place I bought the wing off

Well I dunno :p are they hard to fit then is probably is what i should be asking or would it be better for them just to fit it

Yup, lift the bonnet lid up and along the edge there are a number of hex screws that keep the wing attached to the frame, looks like there's a screw behind the indicator housing too and also the wheel arch wall attaches to the wing so they need to be taken out. From a visibility point of view that's all I can see but I should see better when the new panel comes as I can see all the holes for screws and whatnot.

Well the bodyshop I go to in Edinburgh works on £80 per panel - it's very cheap and the guy has been there for about 30 years.

Sam

You live in southampton dude? if so then I'd be interested in knowing their contact details!

I paid £300 to get the wing fitted and sprayed on the MGF when it got crashed into. They had to flick the paint into the bonnet, door and bumper otherwise you'd notice the difference in shades.

As I was about to sell it the last thing I wanted was somebody picking up that it had been bumped.

Yes I do live in Southampton...... am at uni in Edinburgh, however the bodyshop is still in Edinburgh lol! I mean I'll gladly give your their phone number but from Gosport you are looking at a good 900 mile round trip in which case it may be worth looking locally!

Dunwell Coachworks. Address: 14 Manderston St , Leith , EDINBURGH , EH6 8LY. Tel No: 0131 554 6167

Edit > How badly damaged is the wing? It's amazing what they can sort out with filler - I doubt a whole new wing was required. Do you have a picture?

:/ Edinburgh :/

Lol.

Here's a picture of my wing:

Damn them low poles ! and Damn my aids ridden alloys :/

I'll probably end up getting the indy to fit it too unless I can find a cheaper body shop (that's if their quote is way above £300) but does anyone know if non official bodyshops often do a good job of the paint? the indy is a bmw bodyshop so would use BMW paint but I always wondered how do independent bodyshops get their paint? is it from the manufacturer or do they mix it themselves?

I always thought that if they mixed it themselves then you could always see a difference between a genuine sprayed panel and a 3rd party spray ?

As a guide my wing, bumper and door have been quoted at £250, although there are no panels to replace:

But then me and mtes put a fair bit of business his way, and he likes folding money. ;)

I'll be supplying the panel already primed so all I need the quote for is spray>blend and possibly fitting depending on how difficult the new panel looks to fit!

I remember your thread about that too!

Picked up the cash this week. Will finally get it done whenever bodyshop can take it in and schedule allows.

I am not taking the **** - I honestly think most of that damage would come out with some T-Cut scratch remover. It's more paste like than the colour restorer. You have only about £7 to lose..... I don't think £250 is that cheap but then again I'm used to Scottish prices - I know from getting work done at home it is a LOT more expensive....

It won't chap, its down to the primer/metal. My "friend" caused the damage anyway, so he's had to pay for it!! See here:

Ok guys, I got a quote from Banburrys (Jaguar award winner for bodyshop of the year 2007), they wanted £700+VAT.

Snows BMW Bodyshop next door to Autotechnik (my local Indy) quoted me £600+VAT

I did a Google and found a bodyshop within 2 mins walk from my house so I nipped in after work today and was greeted by a nice old chap who has been running the place since 1971.

The Garage was super clean with various cars nicely wrapped up being worked on. From speaking to the guy and looking at his bodyshop I get a good feeling about the place and ask for a quote. He said around £300+VAT and they'll blend in the paint with the door too. He commented on how nice the colour was and they should be able to get it done no probs and if I don't like it I don't have to pay anything - good service tbh!

I'll be dropping the panel and car off to them Monday and picking up a loaner.

I'm glad I'm not doing it through insurance, turning 25 this year I can't afford to lose my no claims and doing it this way actually end up saving money (well saving less money than I would have saved had I not had to pay £300+VAT but still saving some all the while)

Here's a better picture of the damage:
