New cluster going in at work comprising five E6600's....

That's 20GB of RAM stacked up on the mobo's...

Now the bad news. It's a secure cluster with no external connection so zero borging potential. :(

If you were allowed to you could always sneakernet up to eight WUs at a time per "computer". That would be a total of 40 WUs per transaction.

I don't suppose you'd be allowed to do that since it's secure though.

EDIT: Heck, if they run Linux you could do a lot more than 8 at a time. I think you could then do 32 per machine.

In this case secure means no internet connection, and CD drives and USB ports disabled. Only a few workstations will be connected for running modelling codes.

I could try and sneak out with one under my jacket but being housed in rackmount cases I don't like my chances.

Yeah, it'll be a linux distro of some kind.

The eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed that the mobos are micro-atx and only have 2 RAM slots, although there are ten 1 GB pairs stacked up on top of them.

Can I mention a competitors name if they've screwed up? ;)

Linux is the best thing you can do to top end hardware for day-to-day running. Only thing linux is rubbish at is games but I suspect his company hasn't spent all that cash for a super secure cluster to play FEAR Combat :D
