Frustrations with choosing new 22" monitor

Why is choosing a new monitor such a pain in the preverbial ass.

I can't decide between the HP w2207h or the Samsung 2232bw. Both are stunning monitors with little to choose between them. I thought the HP had won me over as it had an HDMI input which the Samsung doesn't only to learn that you can't get both DVI and HDMI inputs, you either get VGA and DVI or VGA and HDMI.... not DVI and HDMI which is annoying as I wanted DVI for the PC and HDMI for the console.

On top of that I also read in this thread that there was a bit of a panel lottery on the HP's as well. It really annoys me how they can market this same product that can ship with a series of different quality panels.

Am I being overly picky here? Will I even notice the difference if I get a slightly inferior panel? And given the HP's inputs whats the best method for hooking up both the PC and console (Wii)?

panel swaps are a common thing in todays market, as manufacturers try to meet supply demands by sourcing similar panels from various suppliers. At the end of the day, while you may notice slight differences if you were comparing two different versions side by side, i doubt you would really notice much, if any, real difference in practice in normal use. Most users aren't going to notice much difference between different TN Film panels of similar specs / standards. The more concerning panel lotteries are where different technologies althogether are used (e.g S-IPS vs S-PVA on Dell 2007WFP).

It has a Composite input so as long has you have the Wii Composite cable you should be able to to play you Wii through it too. If anyone has this monitor let me know how good it is please.

I'm having trouble finding reviews for the LG. Only found 1 review and it didn't get a great write up.

I need to order ASAP as I'm selling my current monitor tomorrow - I don't want to be monitorless for too long

I know exactly what you mean, and I am comforted a bit by you have narrowed down to the same two models I have.

I think that i'm going to go with the Samsung, and have just to work out whether I want or like the GW or BW model.

glossy screen or not?

I know i'm going glossy and i'm almost certain i'm going HP, after waying up the pro's and con's there's very little to choose between them so its really come down to the HDMI port on the HP and the adjustable stand that the Samsung doesn't have.

Baddass, have you reviewed the w2207h? Or has anyone else found a couple of decent reviews?

I've got the SM 226BW, I know it's not quite the model you're looking at it, but I've yet to see anything that even vaguely matches it for picture quality, I'd strongly recommend it.

not had chance I'm afraid yet.

a lot of people seem to be in this situation, me included. I really like the HP. A good review of it here:http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2007/review-hp-w2207.html

But dont rule out this lil beauty, the Iiyama E2201W-B1 reviewed at the same place. Really good for gaming apparently. http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review/2007/review-iiyama-e2201w.html

Think im goin to get a w2207h though, looks more aesthetically pleasing!!

grrr! now I'm even more confused!?

sorry. Just thought id let you know as for 199 from ocuk the ilyama seems a steal. But the gorgeous loveliness of the of the HP is nice if you are willing to pay that little bit more. personally i think im edging towards the Hp

no worries mate, I'm always like this when buying kit. I agonise so much over the smallest difference sop long that the next revision of whatever is along and it all starts again.

That HP does look nice, though i'm now a bit concerned about the colour space reproduction on all the monitors I was looking at. I do quite a bit of phto editing and would like sRGB covered well...

Spend a little more and buy a PVA or IPS panel, you won't regret it.
I like the HP very much but would spend more on a better panel. I checked out the HP website but couldn't see a similar monitor with a better panel - they were all TNs. Can you suggest anything suitable?

Hey guys I got the LG L227WT 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor nice vivd colours and sharp image. :) The screen is mat and not gloss. Also in the info about the monitor on the OcUK website it says it has Interface: Analog / Digital / Composite but there is no composite input. So now I can't plug my Wii in it. I hate lies. Has far has ghosting I can't see any difference between my old 17" 8ms and this 2ms.
