FS2004 or FSX?

ok i can take off in the small little strange plane, but its still very complicated, which version is more user friendly? And offers the best tutorials, i sort of want to get 2004 atm, because i can run it maxed out smoothly, and its got a lot better reviews. (but it does all look very good)

One other thing, can you use a mouse and keyboard for everything, i cant afford all the equipment.

Century of Flight = FS9 = FS2004. It's got a few old planes yes, but the modern range is pretty similar to that of FSX.

Tutorials are the same. User friendliness is the same. While it is a simulation, you can change the ease of flying and switch off crashes etc in the options, to make it easier at first.

Re your earlier question of which is better FSX at medium or FS9 at max. Well, its not as simple as that. FS9 at max means loads of scenery, autogenerated tress, houses other air traffic, masses of clouds. It makes for a better feeling of a real world. FSX at medium will have a sparser feeling to the environment, but looking just a bit prettier. I personally think that the improvements are not worth the performance hit, though sitting on the water in a float plane even on medium settings is a sight to behold.

Buy FS9 - you won't regret it. Upgrade when you get a better machine.

Better machine?!

His machine will run FSX great- no point in purchasing a 3 year old product- get FSX... It'll run fine on your rig ;)

I have an E6600 with an nVidia 7300 (crap card!), and 1GB RAM.. FSX runs nicely at medium settings, so it'll be fine on yours.

Oh and the tutorials in FSX are better (and the adventures add a great new dimension)

On rereading his spec - you're correct, FSX should run reasonably well. That said, he should be able to max out in FS9 and it will be ultra smooth. Re going for FSX. I would agree the missions are great, but I feel that's pretty much about it in terms of real added value. Also, FS9 comes with stacks of freeware and 3rd party stuff, while the FSX library is only beginning to get going.

I personally am in transition. I bought FSX on its release and hardly use it on my kit, I know it's a generation lower than tomanders, but I am a bit wary of recommending it. I have a stack of top stuff at home awaiting a build on the weekend, and will happily report back!

Just a little note on the gfx side of things. I played again last night and managed to put the airplane graphics up to ultra high and everything else on high or very high and it ran without any jerkyness or anything.

My PC is not powerful at all and it runs like a dream :)

Proof positive that the CPU is key not the graphics card. You mention 3.5 Ghz, but not what chip is?

I dont know lol.... Got the computer given and have never looked :)

Oh and I got it slightly wrong is a 3.2 not 3.5 :)
