The title says it really. I am a complete noob when it comes to overclocking. I tried to overclock my FX 8350 the other day, i got it to 4.4ghz on the stock voltage by changing the FSB. It survived prime95 but it crashes in game. So will a multiplier overclock be any different?. I suspect the crash is due to the CPU/NB frequency" and "HT Link" values.

Specs

mobo: Asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0
GPU: Asus R9 280x
CPU: FX 8350
PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 750w (Gold)
HDD: WD 1TB
Case: NZXT Switch 810
RAM: crucial tactical tracer 2x4gb, 1600
Cooler: Noctua NH-D15

Thanks

You might need to up the cpu to nb voltages to help with that. Also check your ram speed if your using the fsb as that will no doubt be running above 1600mhz.

try using the ,ultiplier and dont forget to disable turbo boost (or whatever its called) and also C1E power saving.

Prime95 is useless for testing AMD chips use intel burnin test as it uses more cores than 95.

I have just overclocked using the multiplier to 4.4ghz and i am now stress testing. All good so far! I have noticed that multiplier causes a lot more heat for some reason.

I was following this guide btw

good guide that its what I used to help me get mine to 4.7 with stock volts but im custom water cooled including my crosshair 5.
