Made a modest overclock from 2.4Ghz - 2.9Ghz with my 6600, Orthos tested it for an hour without any errors so i bashed up Titan quest for a wee bit..

Bout 30 mins into it i start to get really annoyying stuttering in-Game, quickly quit the game and check Cpu-Z to find my processor running at 3.2Ghz and my fsb consideribly higher!

Could someone please tell me why this happened? Does this mean my pc has aquired artificial intelligence ;) ?

[Edit:] Btw if it helps my system is as follows:

ASUS P5W DH Deluxe
E6600 (Now lowered to 2.8 :p )
2Gb Crucial 10th Anniversary

..Oh yeah, and temps were nothing special - 50 degrees or so when it happened

I dont have an asus but im fairly sure they have one of them "overclock" settings in the bios which detects high cpu load and raises the speed automatically, is this turned on?

I know on gigabyte boards its called C.I.A.2 (cpu intelligent accelerator 2)

Good luck and merry christmas :) :D

Yeah i know what u mean, there's some similar functionality for the asus board but it has always been disabled  Thats why im so flabbergastered by this..

Merry Christmas everyone! :D :) :D

Its AI N.O.S. ( why the hell is N-OS ( without the -) replaced by asterix ??)

Also have you got c1e enabled? it lowers the multiplier by 1 when cpu is idle and raises it back to its original then under stress.

Make sure in bios you have the following disabled:

C1E
EIST ( speedstep )
Ai N.O.S.

Oh and merry xmas everyone :) .
