FSX New Build. Spec?

Aah didnt know .............. meant thinking lol

If im honest id rather go AMD Phenom II as its cheaper and will save me a bit of money but read a few reviews and it seems the i7 is the best for number crunching

Matt

As you can see, by my Sig below, I've gone the i7 route and I'm very pleased with it!!! Although this has not been very kind on my pocket:(

I mentioned way back, in post #7, that the Phenom II would be the best budget option. At the end of the day you have to decide what's best for you and your budget and be realistic about both.

Hi,

What system did you go from when you bought the i7 stuff?

Did you notice an improvement that warrantied the high cost of the i7 kit??

Matt

Hi,

I would probably be rebuilding it in 18 months or so anyway so not that mithered about the boards future.

Matt

Then you don't need all the power of i7 since it's not gonna get used for a while yet ;-).

Get am3 and slap in 6 core later if you feel the need, simple.

Edit: Is it just me or you mean flight simulator x ?

As said earlier, I'm in the same boat. I've been doing some research and most of the guys over at avsim are saying Core i5 750 and 4Gb of DDR3. What they also say is, if possible, stay away from the ATI as FSX and the Catalyst drivers don't mix too well. I was told to stick with my 9800GT as I'll see little difference if any with a, eg, 5850 as FSX is basically CPU bound.

Oh right. Ive heard the opposite and was told the ATi are better?

The reason i was going to go ATi is that the eyefinity seems very good and when funds allow i could get another 2 monitors and have 3 working perfectly.

Minimum System Requirements

* Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista
* Processor: 1.0 Ghz
* RAM: Windows XP SP2 - 256MB, Windows Vista – 512MB
* Hard Drive: 14GB
* Video Card: 32MB DirectX 9 compatible

I'm sorry but are you serious with the i7?

Anything above 555BE/435-440 x3 is overkill for this game.

Well having a quick browse looks like people with P4s and old 7xxx geforces were getting 20-30fps in it, any slowest gpu and cpu you can buy one should do 3-4 times more?

What's your current setup and what fps you get on what settings?

Right this is what I've settled on...

And I'll keep my 9800GT... for now ;)

Looks to me like both i5 750/ i7920 and 965 gets 20.1fps capped, and that's on max possible settings and res ?

You'd better off spending the cash on ssd/gpu.

750W psu is a bit overkill as well unless you're planning on crossfire 5850s.

Hi,

Well after much research i have decided on what im getting and im over the moon. I have got (in my view) a very poweful system, 3x monitors for eyefinity(all have displayports), saitek rudder, yoke and throttle controls and decent memory, graphics card etc etc

What do you think?

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM3)
Asus M4A79XTD Evo (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache
LG GH22NS50 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black)
NZXT Gamma Mid-Tower Case - Black
Antec TruePower New Modular 650W Power Supply
3x Dell Professional P2210H 21.5" Widescreen LCD Monitor (all displayports)
Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 3000
Logitech X-210 2.1 Speaker System
Saitek Pro Flight Yoke System
Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals

Total : £1396.97 inc of vat

5770 might lack a bit of power for 3 monitors @ max res but I can't say, on the other hand fsx isn't much gpu intensive game so might be alright : ). You can always add 2nd one in CF later if you need more power.

Other than that looks good.

I am in the process of building an FSX rig myself and from all my research the best GPU seems to be the 9800gtx+ and CPU i7 oc'ed to 3.8-4.0ghz, the higher oc the better.
