Seen some pictures of FTO's with leather interiour (think Piggymons has leather?) however no matter how many ive scanned for sale, ive not seen one with it! Is this some kind of aftermarket replacement that people are doing?

Anyone able to shed some light? Also anything else to be on the look out for on them as im considering selling my Astra and buying one!

Getting the seat re-trimmed in leather will cost a bomb.

What you're looking for is leatherette seat covers. Check out the FTOOC Forums :)

FTOOC is definatley the place to look. If i remember correctly the real leather sets are around £650 and the letherette around £300

Shame i'm thinking about selling my FTO otherwise i would have it done :(

That makes two of us :/

I'm walking to work now and have been since christmas - poor Dexy just isn't getting used :(

She costs a lot of wonga a year to run , which I don't mind paying when she was getting used every day but now it's once in a blue moon it kinda seems a bit of a waste

Im actually thinking "still" of buying an FTO.

Am interested to find out more about the running costs - why is it so expensive ? Are we talking fuel economy, or reliability ?

It's not that expensive but it is when she only gets used once in a blue moon :/

I'm paying about a grand to keep her on the road pa ( Insurance and Road Tax ) without any problems and fuel which wouldn't be an issue at all if I was still using her everyday but when she only gets used once in a while it's not really worth it

Insurance costs a bomb, no matter how old you are. In my name an import Supra TT, a BMW M3, Porsche Box and Lotus Elise are all cheaper (or were a year ago). About all that costs more is a Skyline/EVO/S2000

Running costs are alright, with my driving I'm gettin 23-24mpg but I make very short journeys across town and I use a lot of throttle.

Parts cost a bit so make sure you get a tidy one, I recently needed a wishbone and it was 200 quid, plus it had to come from Japan. I bought one for the BMW for 35 quid new.

General comsumables like pads/filters/clutches are 'normal' prices.

Well I could plump for the GR or the GX Sports Package I guess to keep insurance costs down rather than the GPX or GPVR...

Need to test drive each I guess.

They are all grouped the same insurance wise. At least when I was getting quotes it didn't matter which model I had, I tried quote for GR but it was same price.
Adrian Flux told me they didn't care what model it was!

If you are ~23 years then you should get under a grand with some luck. If you are less than 23 you will have a hard time, very very very few will insure you. My GF had to insure this at 20/21 and only two places would quote, trust me I spend weeks on the phone getting 'no, too young'.

EDIT : N/M I see you are born in '78! Don't worry about insurance, it won't be too bad at that age. 600 FC?..

I will have two years no claims shortly..

How far back do they look with regard to previous accidents - cant remember ?

The leatherette (as it is called) was a group buy on the ftooc. I got one too and im getting mine fitted this sunday.

Dont think about buying a fto, just go get one. You wont regret it. ;)

Im 26 and my insurance is £840 for 12 months, 94 GPX Tip, parked on the road, 2 years ncb after a fault claim in Dec 03. In an average postcode Id say.

Im thinking of getting the seats re-upholstered, not a fan of leather so going to see if I can just get the centres re-trimmed locally.

I think mine will equate to the same (ooh get me with the posh words..)

Quite simply, run a few quotes.

Admiral and its companies (Elephant etc) are reasonable for quotes I think for FTOs, A-Plan and Sky are great. I steered cleared of Adrian Flux, good quotes but bad service was the opinion I got when I read up on them.

I went for Sky in the end, and they were very helpful :)

How much did you pay from the group buy mate, and how much are they charging you to fit them? Im assuming you are getting it done somewhere locally?

Just rung Sky for a quote on a 95 GPX - awaiting call back.

(hmm think this thread has been a bit jacked... appolgies) :o

{edit - quote is £1066 with a £350 excess...
I have 3 non fault claims , but these have gone against me as they are unknown 3rd parties whilst using a company car. Also 2 years NC and an SP30 :mad: }

£1k is hardly bad. There's people in the owners club paying up to £2k to keep frankly... a sweet car, that's dedication! :)

Well, Id ring A-Plan, get a quote and tell them Sky quoted you £1000, and see what they say. £1000 in your situation with 3 claims, points etc doesnt sound bad to me, specially for what is sometimes a ridiculous car to insure.

I rang Sky and A-Plan with a quote already from Admiral and they beat that by a fair bit, if you give them a price to aim for they can normally tweak a few parts of the process, not many sales services will give you their best price without being pushed.
